over 1 year ago – Sat, Jun 08, 2024 at 05:07:04 AM

Hey Witches,

When I posted the last update I had requested a set up review feom Backerkit, which was meant to take 2 working days... but my campaign is still under reivew. Once I can start sending out surveys I will post here, sorry about the delay. Hopefully Backerkit will give me an answer about the delay so I can let you know too!

Greetings,

Liz

October Update
over 2 years ago – Wed, Oct 11, 2023 at 06:13:11 AM

Happy spooky season witches!

I hope you're having a lovely fall! Since we last spoke I finished laying out the book and also got new pieces of the rewards in. We've had a few delays, which I would like to communicate to you now.

After finishing the layout I realized that there were quite a few art holes in the book that could be filled and therefore I contacted Lorena, who did the chapter art for the book, and asked her if she could make six additional pieces for the book. Luckily, she does have time, but at the end of the year - and I'd prefer to wait for her (because I'm in love with her work) than hire someone else who doesn't understand the moods/themes of Witch as well as she does.  Likewise, I've ordered the dice, but they're due to be done at the end of November and then need to be shipped here to the Netherlands.

What does this mean? I will likely be opening the pledge manager in January (I don't want to ask for your money for shipping until I am actually shipping). And sending rewards in the first quarter of 2024. I feel this is worth it to have a higher quality book with more art and of course we need the dice. I understand this is a disappointment for some of you and I sincerely apologize for the delay, but I promise we are making the book and products extra nice and the delay will be very much worth it!

If you're unhappy with the progress of the book, the quality of the components, or communication I am happy to offer you a refund of your pledge! Just PM me and I will get that processed ASAP!

PDFs

That said, besides for the art the PDF of Witch is actually done!  I don't see any reason to keep the text from you while we wait from art. So, at the end of this month I'll be sending out surveys via Kickstarter to get everyone who's owed a PDF's email address and then I'll send the PDF out through DTRPG. Once the art is in, I'll update the PDF and you can re-download it to see the new pretties.

This does have one great benefit, which is the game gets a longer time for you as backers to take a look at it. So, we'll open up a feedback Googleform at the same time just in case you all catch typos etc.

Pictures & Stories

Now onto the fun part of the update, pictures of pretty things!

I thought it would be fun to show you the sampling progress of the spirit board. The lighting in this image isn't the best, but as you can see we went through quite a few iterations of the spirit board before getting to the final. The final is actually lighter and richer in colour than what you see here, but this is what I get for trying to make an artsy photo on a wood table.

I also ordered these beautiful burgundy organza bags to store the boards in and the scrying skull as well. I won't show those in the pics cause I want it to be a pretty surprise when you open your packages. Things went a bit wonky with sending the boards to our offices, because of the weight of the boards I ended up having to pick them up from the depot, but at the same time they were marked as missing. Because I've worked with the printer for so many projects they printed a new batch for free and sent them... but then half of that went missing... it was all a mess, but I ended up with 1.5x the order of spirit boards I needed :P. Which means if there are some of you who are seeing these pics and are sad you missed out on getting one, we will have some stock for backers to add them to their pledges if you're interested!

So after my super enthusiastic update about the dice printer in Spain, they didn't contact me for a month and a half, even after multiple emails. The one silver lining was that I hadn't paid anything yet, which in the end is why I ultimately decided to stop trying to contact the supplier. Haha, oh the joys of production. Sooooooo in the end I just went back to Chessex and ordered the dice, because I just didn't want the stress of trying to find another supplier. Chessex costs a bit more, but I've worked with them on multiple products and they always deliver. Here's a sample of the dice in the end! They've been paid for and ordered, huzzah!

That's all for now, I hope you're all doing well!

Best regards,

Liz

Book Progress & Pictures
over 2 years ago – Fri, Jul 21, 2023 at 03:35:15 AM

Greetings witches,

I hope the summer is treating you all well and you're happy and healthy! As you might notice this update is much later than expected, but with plenty of goodies in it. The team's been steadily working on this project, but not at the speed we expected, hence the later update. As a general rule, we like to update when we can show real progress (and pictures) so we'd rather post later than spam people with updates with no information. Thanks to planning in an ample buffer, we are still on track to meet the October delivery deadline for this project. If this changes we will update you!

Corebook

Monte and I have been working through copy edits for the corebook and they are 70% done. I placed some of the text in preliminary layout to see how everything looks and I thought it would be fun to show you a few pictures so you can join in the hype with me!

This doesn't have any of the real text, but I wanted to show you these cool hyper-side bars we'll have in the game. Basically these are a way for us to call out important information, which visually breaks up the page in a nice way rather than just using a normal header (title).

Accessories

The grimoire and dice bags have been ordered! In the end we went for a black vegan leather cover for the grimoire, it gave a nicer hand feel and we could have 25 extra pages inside the book, which is nice :).

The grimoires are already in-house!
Here's a mock-up of the bag from the factory! However, the bag will actually be 1 cm larger in length and width!

The spirit board has gone through a major overhaul. When we were ready to order, the two suppliers who we'd plan to order the wooden board were from were out of stock with the wood (and other sources were way too expensive). I spoke to one of the companies who I work with quite regularly and my contact told me there wasn't any affordable stock and he was unsure when that would change. So, we pivoted in a big way and decided to do something totally out of the box with the spirit board! It's now going to be printed in full-colour, on a round plexi-glass board. The print matches the corebook cover and I personally think it looks pretty rad (please note the sample below is not final)! I'm a bit disappointed about not having a wooden board, because that is what I always had in my mind, but I think this is a really nice alternative. Curious to know what you all think as well, let me know in the comments.

So clearly, this is not the final sample :P. First, we are definitely going to correct the direction of the letters. Also, what is white now will be a deep red and the letters will be white!

The dice are ordered! In the end we chose for a black pearl die with gold lettering. The quality of the orange pearl dice from the Chinese factory wasn't what we hoped - way brighter than the image we received. And therefore we went to a company in Spain with our order who could produce the dice at a better quality. We don't have any pictures of this yet!

The Devil's Zine, The Distant Way, and the quick references are on hold until corebook edits are done. We want to make sure all the mechanics and setting is finalized so we don't have messy revisions when it comes to supplemental material.

Until Next Time!

On a more personal note I (Liz) had a few personal events happen in my life, which means that communication for this project isn't the same as you're used to (if you've backed other Angry Hamster campaigns) and I apologize for that. If you're unhappy with how the communication or progress has been with this project or the revised forms of the products - I'm happy to offer you a refund for your pledge. Just send me a PM and I will process that for you! I want everyone who's supported me and the team to be completely happy with what they're getting.

My plan is to post another update in the next few months with another batch of significant updates.

Greetings,

Liz
